Background
Nearly 6.74 million ha of salt-affected lands and 1.9 million hectares with ground saline water is available in India. Inland saline waters are characterized by low potassium and magnesium levels compared to seawater causing an imbalance in Na+/K+ ratio while calcium is higher than that of seawater. Balance between potassium and sodium ions is required for cell volume and hydration. Hence, fortification of potassium and magnesium has been attempted by many researchers for making P.vannamei farming possible in ISA (Roy et al., 2010).
